Roza-Fasting is The Third Pillar Of Islam and Its Significance

Meaning Of Roza:

Roza is an Arabic term that can also be called Sawm, which means "to avoid". Fasting is the fourth pillar in Islam, after Salat, Tauheed, and Zakat. Roza means to avoid all bad and sinful eating and drinking. Muslims all over the world observe fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan Quran sharif.

The Description of a Fast:

Muslims observe fasting after Shaban, the Ramadan month. There can be 29 to 30 Rozas in a month. The month ends with the sightedness or Shawwal crescent, where believers celebrate Eid-ul Fitr.

The Roza does not only refer to abstaining from food and drink, but also to avoid sins, bad actions, smoking, drinking and other prohibited activities. To observe a fast, a believer must abstain from these activities. !

The Prestigious Month Of Ramadan and Its Significance

Ramadan, the holy and most revered month of Islam for believers, is also the most sacred. This month is not only a month of fasting. It also marks us with other significant events, such as the revelation and month of the Holy Quran. This is why it is called the "Holy Quran Month". This month is also associated with The Night of Power (Laylat ul Qadar). Ramadan also offers special rewards for Suhoor or Iftar.

Quranic Fourth Pillar Of Islam:

The Holy Quran highlights Roza's importance at different events. Surah Baqarah verse 183 highlights sawm as follows:

You who believe! Fasting is permitted to you in the same way it was to others before you so that you can learn devotion and righteousness."

Similar to verse 184 in Surah Baqarah, Roza is mentioned:

If you only knew, the fast is actually best for you.

Roza in the Hadiths

Hazrat Muhammad (SAW), the Prophet of Islam, is depicted as follows:

"When Ramadan comes, the gates to mercy are opened and the gates to Hell are locked and the Devils are chained." (Kitab Al Sawm Book 6, Number 2361)

Roza was also mentioned by the Messenger (SAW).

"All his past sins will forgiven if he fasts during Ramadan because he believes in Allah and hopes to receive Allah's rewards." (Imam Bukhari)

Some facts about fasting can cause confusion. For example, if someone accidentally eats a drink or eats something by mistake, his fast will not be invalidated. However, if he does so with good intentions, he will not receive any reward. Invalidations will not be affected by accidentally swallowing saliva or dust particles. Fasts should be avoided using pastes or inner-mouth creams. This one can also use insulin or injections for medical doses that don't affect Roza.
